Introduction:
The Library is quiet and a White write Board is situated in front of the computer stations. These letters are written in bold Block letters
R E T S N O M
(A large mirror is leaning against the board)
Students are assigned learning buddies at the computer stations
(each student has a computer). After they are seated the LMS asks students what they see? What does it mean? They are given 5 minutes to think about what they see.
Then the LMS asks a student to come up and use the mirror to reflect what is written on the board. The word MONSTER is now visible.
The students are asked what does the word Monster mean to you.
The LMS draws a big bubble around the word Monster and ask students to express what the word monster means to them as they respond they are invited to express their interpretation of a monster creatively (whatever method they choose; i.e. their face(s) and body (ies) to express their interpretation of a monster.
Simultaneously, the LMS is writing the words students use to describe a monster attached to the word written on the wipe off board in a graphic organizer (a web).
