Procedures:

We will brainstorm key words about Ancient Egypt.  I will model skimming the article, The Nile and Ancient Egypt on the Smart-board and answer a sample focus question. Students will have their own copies of articles.  Students work in pairs to take notes on the article.  They will switch note-fact sheets at their table to check for accurate facts.  Each table will have one focus question to answer.  We will have accountable talk to share our findings of facts and strategies on note-taking.

Questions:

1. Why was it important for the Egyptians to mummify their dead?

2. What was the purpose of the pyramids?

3. How can we tell what was important to the Egyptians by their type of writing?

4. How was education in Ancient Egypt different and similar to education today?
