Censorship and the Student's Right to Read
!!! LESSON PLAN IN PROGRESS !!!
Description:
In this assignment, students select and read a book already frequently challenged or a contemporary book that has content that would potentially lead to a challenge. Students then create a case study for that book or collect data on books with similar "questionable" themes, and using the District's Collection Development Policy and Procedures for Challenging Instructional Materials to either support or defend an imagined challenge of their book. The student then presents their case to the class, who votes on the imagined removal of the book from the library's collection based on the efficacy of the student's argument.
