Teacher will read, The Hello, Goodbye Window by Norton Juster, illustrated by Chris Raschka. Teacher will point out the illustrations in the book and ask students to create their own window.  Students will be asked to create a scene that they would like to see through an imaginary window.

Goals & Objectives:

  • Students will demonstrate through imitation how to replicate an illustrator’s style.
  • Students will understand that professional illustration can be achieved using simple materials.

Materials & Sources:

The Hello, Goodbye Window by Norton Juster, illustrated by Chris Raschka. Extension project: craypas, construction paper, and paper with window holes.

Procedures:

Have the students sit for storytime. Distribute the precut construction paper with precut window page and Craypas.  Ask students to create a scene of their choice, something they would like to look out their window and see.
