Have a Heart
Description:

Print resources (nonfiction books, encyclopedias, magazines, etc.) often provide just the information you need.  However, in this lesson, students will learn that Internet resources can provide interactive and multimedia resources that let will allow them to experience information in a different way. Students will also learn some tips about how to locate this cool information!  At the same time, they will learn about the heart!


Goals & Objectives:
After completing this lesson, students will be able to:


  • explain what Wikipedia is

  • explain that they should not use Wikipedia as their only source or information and why

  • give 2 good reasons for using Wikipedia

  • name 2 search engines

  • describe 2 special Google tools used in this that help them find their specific information

  • articulate the special thing about the Internet that they no get  as easily from other sources of information


  • tell their classroom teacher about 2 or 3 great websites for learning more about the heart

  • explain the cartoon in the conclusion


Materials & Sources:
This is a lesson in BuILder, so students need a computer and Internet access (perferable high speed).  Support materials are included in the Builder lesson (intro, task, into to the Internet, guide to the Internet search process, review sheet, conclusion with cartoon, references).  It goes with the Have a Heart BuILder lesson at

Procedures:
Students work independently to progress through the intro to the Internet and the tips for the search process while, at the same time, exploring websites that will lead to a better understanding of the heart.  They will complete the review sheet as the go.

Assessment:
LMS will grade the review sheets.  At the beginning of the next class, the LMS will go over the answers to the review sheets.  This will serve as a recall mechanism.
