Description:
This lesson takes reading and reading strategies to a new level! Using Post It Notes as "text tagging" is a great way to get students focusing on their reading and comprehension. This lesson teaches students to use strategies when text tagging any type of reading material or genre.
Goals & Objectives:
-Students will be able to use post-it notes for reading comprehension
-Students will be able to read various genres and types of readings by post it noting areas of concern, interest, question, and insight.
-Students will be able to discuss reading with classmates using post it notes

Procedures:
-Introduce the Post It notes - student should be familiar with how to use them in everyday life... discuss how to use them with reading.
-Instead of writing on the page, use a post it note to document interesting points, conflicts, questions, connections, and ideas
-Give examples on guide sheet
-Model post it note strategies with Out of the Dust (or other appropriate reading)
-Give students time for guided practice using the post it notes
