Class 2-303 Meets the Sea
This is a collaborative lesson taking place with a second grade class to prepare them for their trip to the New York Aquarium.
Students will use print and non print resources to discover facts about sea animals.
After listening to My Trip to the Aquarium by Aliki students will predict what their trip will be like.
As students enter the library the song Under the Sea from the movie Little Mermaid is playing in the background. Students bring with them a KWL chart that they began to create in their class. Students take turns reading aloud what they already know about sea life and their aquarium visit. They expand the chart by asking several question that they want to find out answers to. Classroom teachers writes it on the chart as students share responses. LMS reads aloud My Trip to the Aquarium by Aliki. After the reading students discuss with a partner two new things that they learned from the story. Students predict what they will see on their trip.Class is divided into two groups. Each group of two students selects two questions from their chart to search for answers for. Half the class uses the internet while the other half uses books. Teacher and LMS circulate to assist the groups.
