Description:
The elementary school student is exposed to many types of folktales. Many of the tales they encounter are called “pourquoi" (pour kwah') tales. This lesson will introduce students to this important part of literature. Students will learn the characteristics of a pourquoi tale, or why, tales, a type of folktale that usually explains something in nature and is found in most world cultures. To demonstrate their understanding, students will create their own pourquoi tales. Students will be motivated by the content of this lesson because it integrates a number of cross-curricular content areas.
