Instruction / Activities:

Title: How to Cite Resources

Subject/Grade Level: Language Arts /10th

Objective: By the end of the lesson students will be able to correctly cite resources (Standards for the 21st Century Learner 3.16; Standard 3 Objective 2 d of Utah Core Curriculum for 10th grade Language Arts )

1-      Students will spend five minutes finding a nonfiction book on chosen topic

2-      As a class, students will compile list of important identification information for books

a.       Use one student’s choice as example

3-      Students will be introduced to MLA formatting rules

a.       Go over basic rules

b.      Show Son of Citation Machine (http://citationmachine.net/)

4-      Students will create a citation for their chosen source

5-      Activity

a.       Prearrange citations with title or author missing

b.      Have students form groups of 2 or 3 and give each group a citation

c.       Have students locate source from the information that they have
