1. Students will be assigned to groups of 3
2. Each group will be assigned one of the following topics to research based on submission of their top three choices
1. The big bang theory
2. The red shift, blue shift, and Doppler Effect
3. Open Universe
4. Closed Universe
5. Inflationary therory
6. Heliocentric theory
7. Geocentric theory
8. Steady State theory
9. Telescopes
10. Staellites
11. Hubble Space Telescope
12. Observatories
3. Your task is to research a theory or technology related to the universe. You will work with others to discuss what you are learning. You will present your findings to the class in the form of a PowerPoint, and will also view presentations by other groups to increase your knowledge.
4. Use your textbook, a non fiction book, and one internet source to access information. You will spend 3 days in the library so you can use library books and computers.
5. You will prepare a PowerPoint that contains at least 8 slides. Include a title page with the title of your presentation and the names of people in your group. Define your theory. Tell when it was created and who created it. List facts about it. Include 2 pictures that make it easier to understand. Include your personal opinions about the validity of the theory or the importance of the technology. Include a question to ask your audience to see if they understood your presentation. Include a bibliography showing where you obtained your information.
6. Present your findings to the class. Each member of your group should take part in your presentation. Be prepared to answer any questions at the end.
7. Listen carefully to all class presentations. You will take notes and list the 3 most important facts from each group.
