At the end of the lesson each student will know what the genre of Fables is, and be able to write their own short fable.
Each student will know how to use the computer as a resource in looking up a variety of abstracts on fables, be able to navigate through links on the computer, and extract information.

1. Teach and discuss the characteristics of fables.
2. Play the 6 minute excerpt of the "Tortoise and the Hare" from Reading Rainbow, discuss this fable and the moral to the story, otherwise known as the lesson learned.
3. Use the Interwrite board as a computer, or use separate computers and look up links for abstracts on fables.
4. Demonstrate how the information can be used to select books on fables.
5. Look through selection of fable books, read a couple short fables to students, or have them choose and read depending on age.
6. Have students write their own very short fable on the worksheet [provided in Supporting Files].
7. Have students illustrate their own fable with colored pencils.
