Genres Change but the Story Stays the Same
Description:
Students will explore the different genres and compare a movie and novel version of the same story.
Goals & Objectives:

Instructional Goals:

  • Students will be able to understand that the same story can appear in different genres and that the stories may change based on the innate characteristics of those genres.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will compare a passage of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone book to a clip from the movie to find one similarity and difference between the two, as well as one group hypothesis about why movies and books differ.

 

Motivational Goals:

  • Students will feel motivated to discuss the similarities in the genres because the story used is popular and the lesson has a visual element.
