Students will research the effects of global warming on the environment through searching the world wide web and school databases. Students will present their findings in an independent project.

The student will engage in information seeking strategies for Science standard 5.10. A. 1 – Environmental Science.

The student will learn to develop keywords for searching.

The student will learn to develop a search strategy including narrowing a search and using advanced searching.

The student will produce articles and information pertaining to global warming and its effect on the environment.

1. Teacher Librarian will show “An Inconvenient Truth” in the classroom and lead a discussion about global warming.
2. Teacher Librarian will show students a ppt on the development of keyword searching and techniques for searching on the WWW.
3. Teacher Librarian will demonstrate how to narrow a keyword search through phrase searching and advanced searching in different search engines.
4. Teacher Librarian will guide students to a link on the Media Center homepage that has links to numerous search engines.
5. Teacher Librarian will guide students to a link to the school databases on the Media Center homepage.
6. Teacher Librarian will show students how to log in to the databases and hand out a bookmark of all the passwords for various databases.
7. Teacher Librarian will demonstrate how to search the databases for information retrieval relevant to the topic.

 

 

Each student will develop keywords for searching and fill in the keyword chart organizer.
Each student will use the search log to develop and track world wide web searching.
Each student will gather information and submit a bibliography of articles found pertaining to global warming and its effects on the environment.
Students will present an independent project on the effect of global warming on the environment.
