Brooklyn in the Civil War
!!! LESSON PLAN IN PROGRESS !!!
Description:
At the time of the civil war Brooklyn, NY was the third largest city in the Union. The city of Brooklyn sent thousands to fight for the union Army. This mini lesson alerts students to resources available on line and at their local library.
Goals & Objectives:
  • Students will be able to access information effectively.
  • Students will review reference materials.
  • Students will utilize critical thinking skills by determining how to meet an information need through the appropriate use of reference materials.
  • Students will gain experience in utilizing non fiction and reference materials.
  • Students will problem solve, gather information, and present their findings.
  • Students will determine which reference material will best supply the answer to their research question. The questions will be created in collaboration with the students' Social Studies/American History classroom teacher.
  • Students will present to the class their findings as well as the process by which they answered each of their questions.
  • Students will reflect knowledge they have covered thus far in their curriculum relating to the Civil War.
