Day After Tomrrow(2004) Directed by Roland Emmerich[DVD] Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation.
1. Show a film clip from “Day After Tomorrow” that depicts a group of people stranded at the NYC Public Library contemplating whether to attempt an escape from an approaching storm or stay in the building.
2. Ask students to decide based on what they heard in the clip whether they would leave or stay. Then I will ask for reasons why they made the decision they had.
3. I will then show a graph that represents the topics people ages 15-24 look for on the Internet related to health. I will use this to share examples of decisions they may make based on health resources they consult.
4. We will review aspects of a resource you want to look for to determine whether it is a good quality resource. I will make note of any similarities to the reasons they shared in our discussion about the film clip to enforce how important it is to evaluate the resource regardless of the situation.
5. I will mention that in the area of consumer health there is an over abundance of resources. Therefore, this class session will focus on how to determine a quality resource among the vast amount of content they find themselves wading through.
6. I will break the students up in to groups of 4 (28 students = 7 groups)
7. Students will determine whether they will use the resource their group is reviewing and come up with at least 2 reasons why they will or won’t use the resource. If they are not sure if they would use a resource, they will be asked to explain why.
8. In conclusion, I will ask them to write down one thing they learned during the class on one side and any lingering questions on the reverse side. I will share the cards with Amy Klein who has agreed to follow-up with her students, if necessary.
