For this exploration, you will focus on writers and literary works of the Harlem Renaissance.

Your job is to complete the following tasks:

1) Choose two writers to explore and learn about.

• Review the links to biographical information and pieces of their literary works.
  
• Write down interesting or important facts about each writer's life on the Summary of Findings Worksheet .
• Choose one piece of writing by either of the two writers to look at further in depth. This writing could be a poem or excerpt from a larger piece, such as an essay.  

2) Select one poem from The Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes.

3) Compare the piece of writing you selected from your study of Harlem Renaissance writers and the poem from The Bronx Masquerade.

Use the Venn Diagram provided by your teacher (or print it out here ) to do this.

4) Answer the questions on the Summary of Findings Worksheet.

5) Using your notes as a guide, write up a short summary to post to a class blog. Carefully read and edit your summary before posting!

Your post should include:

• Some interesting facts about at least one of the writers you explored.
• The title of the piece you reviewed from one of these two writers, and what you think is particularly strong or weak about this literary work.
• Reflect on your experience of reading The Bronx Masquerade and learning about Harlem Renaissance writers. How did the literary  movement of the Harlem Renaissance impact the lives of Nikki Grime's characters in The Bronx Masquerade? Share your thoughts.
