Dressing for your body type

Description:

Using proportion to illustrate how to choose clothing that flatters your figure.

Goals & Objectives:

1) To make clothing choices that even out body proportions, thus flattering the unique body type.

 

2) To recognize that art principles can be used in many applications, including fashion design and choices. 

Materials:

body type illustrations

magazines, for clothing choices 

Procedures:

1) Review a 'balanced' female body illustration. Discuss hourglass shape, and it's historical significance in fashion.

2)  Review body-type illustrations, Hourglass, Rectangle, Triangle, Inverted Triangle.

3) Discuss how various clothing choices can create width, streamline, etc.

4) Choose appropriate clothing shapes for various body-types. 

Assessment:

After practicing the principles, have students/participants make appropriate clothing choices for a specific body type (preferably one that is similar to theirs).
