Procedures:
Session One Watch the 8 minute EPIC 2015 video Discuss the following question: “What is information literacy when anyone can publish to a worldwide audience?” Allow students to explore the URLs listed on the Interesting Websites handout
Session Two Discuss the Librarian's Ultimate Guide to Search Engines article Collect and discuss cartoons depicting the lighter side of Internet and technology use Administer and review the Information Literacy quiz Read and review the How to Read a Web Address handout Read and review the How Much for that Keyword handout Read and review the Checking External Links handout
Session Three Demonstrate Website analysis using the Senior Web Analysis and Content Validity Scale tools Students select a favorite Website to evaluate using these tools Discuss the process and student findings
Session Four Go to Purdue University's CORE tutorial and create a free Account Select the Indexes tab, and then walk students through the unit Complete the online quiz at the end of the tutorial as a group Discuss your experiences
Session Five Explore Google, especially the Advanced Search, Google Books, Google Scholar, and Google Earth features Select a few excellent databases available through your library system and discuss/demonstrate their differences and benefits over Internet resources. Watch the ProQuest Training Video and discuss this resource in relation to those previously reviewed
