Description:

Introduce students to the capitals and states within the United States.

Goals & Objectives:

Students will list each of the 50 states and their associated capitals.

Materials:

Student maps will be generated from GIS (geographic information software). Google Earth may also be used to show students the capitals of each state Google Earth must be downloaded prior to use. See www.googleearth.com
GIS maps are available through ArcView GIS 3.3.

Procedures:

Using an LCD projector and computer display the outline of each state

Assessment:

This is a timed activity: Using the paper/pencil method, hand each student a blank map of the United States (face down on the desk). Students will correctly label each state in its corresponding position on the blank U.S. map un 5 min. or less.
