This lesson focuses on marine animals. It is fun-filled and adventurous while addressing the standards for science, literacy and information literacy.
[REVIEWERS' NOTES] This lesson plan includes a number of motivating strategies to gain and sustain students' attention, build confidence, and provide a satisfying outlet for the products of their research. ------- -Students will watch a video on fish/marine animals.
-Students will write the names of marine animals that they are interested in and indicate particular curiosities they may have.
-A graphic organizer will be developed and discussed
-Students will be asked to pretend they are aquarium workers and will be grouped according to common animals
-Each child will receive an index card for recording pertinent information
-A Hyperstudio slideshow will be prepared for each marine animal. Each child will create an individual slide indicating the question asked and the information gathered.
-Groups will exhibit their print-outs on Aquarium Day. A role-playing activity will allow students to share their information while aquarium visitors ask questions pertaining to each animal.
-Print-outs will be used as part of a mural display
Evaluation will be based upon a review of the information displayed in the Hyperstudio presentations and information shared orally by the aquarium workers.
