Description:

Student learn to gather information from textbook and the Internet. They pull information from the text or passage to learn more about the subject, then students will collaborate, share their finding with mini-presentations, and finally create a pamphlet to create interest and teach the topic to other students. This lesson is taught with the intent to teach students how to gather and pull information from text. The lessons are broken down into 1 hour parts, resulting in a final presentation to share with other students within the district.

Materials:

Students will use their Language Textbooks, Science Textbooks and the Internet to search for information about the stars in our solar system.

Procedures:

 Part 1

 

(1) Student start with a KWL Chart about stars

(2) Students collaborate about what they already know about stars and write down on their KWL Chart

(3) Students write down what they would like to learn on their KWL Charts about stars

(4) Teacher and students read a small passage from their Language Literature and Science Literature, gathering information from literature and taking notes.

(4) Students go on the Internet and start their search about stars with star colors, temperatures and distance of stars.

(5) Students answer questions on clickers, and then create their own questions about what the students read and learned thus far

(6) Students demonstrate their knowledge of stars colors, temperatures by labeling a temperature chart with the proper star colors, and explaining distance of stars through art.
