The Power of Poetry

Description:

1. Students will listen and participate in reading poems aloud

2. Students will research a poet of their choice and write a brief paper pertaining to their life and works

3. Students will compile works of the poet they have chosen to share with the class

4. All students will receive a poetry folder that contains their peer’s poet and works compiled

5. Students will create a Wordle based on their poet

Direct Instruction:

·         Introduce assignment to students.

·         Have students pick poet

·         Have students research their topic by use of poetry books in the library, the Internet and reference books.

 

Modeling and Guided Practice:

 

 

 

Independent Practice: 

 

·         Students will gather their information and facts and create their essay.

·         Students will find and chose 10-15 poems by their poet, to compile into a poetry packet.

·         Students will practice reading poetry aloud in preparation of presenting to class.
