Description:

The aim of the session is to introduce students to the online quiz approach to assessing learning within Blackboard. [Editors's Note: Readers of this lesson plan should apply procedures to their own online quiz program. Access to the submitter's online Blackboard system or related tutorial is not provided.]

Goals & Objectives:

After taking this lesson, learners should be able to

   1. Understand the role of online quiz in distance learning.

   2. Describe the characteristics of and practical strategies for online quiz construction.

   3. Discuss issues related to online quiz (cheating, plagiarism and other unethical behaviours)

    4. Implement an online quiz within Blackboard CMS

Materials:

Computer w/ Internet access (per student)
Animated & Interactive? Tutorial
Online resources of online quiz (PDF and web pages)
Access & use of Blackboard CMS

Procedures:

1.    Self-paced study (Online animated tutorial, online resources)
•    Overview of lesson objectives
•    Comparison and contrast of different assessment approaches
•    Strategies for using online quiz
•    Issues related to online quiz
•    Introduction to Blackboard quiz feature
•    Brief introduction to context of online quiz in e-learning
2.    Individual project: Converting a classroom quiz into an online quiz by using Blackboard quiz feature
3.    Peer review of each other’s project via Blackboard discussion board feature
4.    Summary and close.  Instructor leads an online chat where students present their discussion points arising from this session, and these areas are clarified by peers and / or the instructor.  

Assessment:

Students to complete the individual quiz construction project. Grades of the projects will be judged by instructor and peer review.



Students to be challenged for feedback into online chat session during summary and close.
