Description:
This lesson is designed for ninth grade students as an assist to Embedded Assessment I of the "Coming of Age" unit in (Collegeboard) Springboard Level IV text. It will be taught in collaboration with the English 9 instructor who will have taken the students through the exploration of coming of age in our society and others. Prior to this lesson the students will have: read a novel that meets the theme of coming of age, various short stories, and selected pieces of poetry.
Goals & Objectives:
Instructional Goals:
- Students will access information effectively and efficiently.
- Students will present information in a prescribed format.
- Students will become familiar with the navigation of a specific website.
- Students will understand the importance of proper citation.
- Students will properly cite information.
- Students will use multimedia to present a PowerPoint presentation.
Learning Objectives:
- Students will work co-operatively in pairs.
- Students will evaluate and select thematic support for a self selected written piece of literature.
- Students will store data from several sources for synthesis.
- Students will locate specified websites.
Motivational Goals:
- Establish a cooperative learning environment.
- Build students’ confidence in their ability to learn/use information skills.
- Motivate students to continue to use information skills after the lesson.
- Stimulate students to continue to synthesize information from multiple sources.
