Coming of Age and Auditory Response

Description:

This lesson is designed for ninth grade students as an assist to Embedded Assessment I of the "Coming of Age" unit in (Collegeboard) Springboard Level IV text. It will be taught in collaboration with the English 9 instructor who will have taken the students through the exploration of coming of age in our society and others. Prior to this lesson the students will have: read a novel that meets the theme of coming of age, various short stories, and selected pieces of poetry.

Goals & Objectives:

Instructional Goals:

  1. Students will access information effectively and efficiently.
  2. Students will present information in a prescribed format.
  3. Students will become familiar with the navigation of a specific website.
  4. Students will understand the importance of proper citation.
  5. Students will properly cite information.
  6. Students will use multimedia to present a PowerPoint presentation.

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Students will work co-operatively in pairs.
  2. Students will evaluate and select thematic support for a self selected written piece of literature.
  3. Students will store data from several sources for synthesis.
  4. Students will locate specified websites.

 

Motivational Goals:

  1. Establish a cooperative learning environment.
  2. Build students’ confidence in their ability to learn/use information skills.
  3. Motivate students to continue to use information skills after the lesson.
  4. Stimulate students to continue to synthesize information from multiple sources.
