Students will choose URLs for bogus websites out of a hat while being told that half of them are valid websites and half are bogus. Students will need to determine if their website is real or not. The Teacher-Librarian will teach students what website characteristics to look for.
Instructional Goals: · Students will locate a website when provided a URL. · Students will gather information from the accessed website. · Students will evaluate the information from the accessed website. · Students will share their evaluations during a discussion period. · Students will understand the importance of evaluating information accessed on the internet. · Students will write a report describing their evaluation of the website. · Students will identify three items that helped inform them that their website did not contain valid information. Motivational Goals: · Inspire students to want to evaluate information accessed on the internet. · Build students’ confidence in evaluating information provided on the internet. · Increase students’ interest in knowing if information is valid or not. · Promote satisfaction in website information evaluation accomplishments.
Learning Objectives:
· Students will identify five items that inform them of a website’s validity.
· Students will produce a written report describing at least three factors that make the website information invalid
