The purpose of the lesson is to teach the fifth grade students how to use online mapping resources, such as Google Maps. Through their exploration they will acquire the skills necessary to successfully locate destinations, to choose different formats for viewing, become familiar with Google Mapping icons, and street level imagery to explore the walking route between two locations. The lesson will be used to support the mapping portion of the fifth grade social studies curriculum, as well as to create enthusiasm in their ability to use technology for accessing information.
Instructional Goals:
The students will be able to use technology tools for accessing information and inquiry.

Fifth grade students will identify and implement the various features of an online mapping resource by describing the visual representation of a route between their school and a given location.
