Description:

The Methods, Media and Materials used in Distance Education will vary from course to course. There is not a definitive answer as to how much or little media or materials to use in a given course.

One type of media that stands out is using video conferencing. Again, you lose face-to-face interaction with distance education, however, with video conferencing one is allowed to have face-face interaction via the internet.

The materials could range from guidebooks, reflection essays, discussion board analysis on reading among many others. This is a vital part of DE, supplying the learning with the tools for success.

Goals & Objectives:

DE Media - Video Conferencing.  The ability to have face-to-face interaction.  The disadvantages would be technichal issues and resources (expensive).

DE Materials - Guidebooks, reflection essays, discussion board analysis. The disadvantages could be untimely feedback on essays, guidebooks and in turn creating a sense of uneasiness among learners.

DE Methods - Blackboard, WebCT. Disadvantages include technical issues and resources, troubleshooting.

Materials:

Technology (computer, internet, video conferencing technology)

Procedures:

Video Conferencing - Students interact "face-to-face" via the internet with one another as well as professor.

Reflection Essays, guidebooks, discussion boards - Learners reflect and discuss materials.

WebCT, Blackboard - Navigating and learning how to use tools on each given system.

Assessment:

Did the students learn how to use the tools and discuss their strengths/weaknesses? Was the learning engaging and fulfilling?
