Collaboration is not just the "buzz word dujour" for librarians, it is their mantra. As long as what we do is directly relevent to curricular priorities, librarians will be the "secret ingredient" for exemplary student exploration of any content area.
- Ms. Moran, a fifth grade teacher, wanted assistance initiating a unit on Art and Artistic Expression. As the librarian, I was delighted to kick-off her class's journey with a lesson designed to bring out the artist in all of us.
- Collaboration works from top to bottom, and bottom to top. This SmartBoard Professional Development Program came about as the result of a collaborative effort between librarians and their principals. Collaborative technology programs combine the best of both worlds: school leadership and content specialtists.
Honors High School Freshman have their own ideas about what they like and what they don't! Their teacher wanted a creative way to discuss Romeo & Juliet without the students censoring their opinions. This lesson "Judging a Book (or play) by it's Cover" gave them the opportunity to speak openly about what they knew about the play (they had read 2 Acts) and how they projected that knowledge onto the cover art and design. Click here for the lesson and the cover comparison page and the worksheet students used to summarize their choices.
