I know many of you do not like to write essays, but that is only because you may not know how to do so comfortably.  This lesson is designed to help you write one type of essay--the persuasive essay.  

What is a persuasive essay?  

According to most definitions a persuasive essay, also known as an argumentative essay, uses logic and reason to show that one idea is more legitimate than another.  It attempts to persuade the reader to adopt a certain point of view or to take a particular action.  The writer of a persuasive essay must always use sound reasoning and solid evidence by stating facts, giving logical reasons, using examples, and quoting experts.
